Protect Your Holiday Home During The Winter Months with The Happy Camper Store

It is autumn and the nights are slowly closing in. With winter just around the corner, now is the time to consider ensuring that your Holiday Home is prepared for potential hard winter weather that may come; rain, sleet, snow, frosts can all cause damage.

At The Happy Camper Store, we are committed to helping you protect your holiday home, which might be one of your most precious assets. We have put together this handy Winterisation leaflet to help you.

Protect your holiday home during the winter months. From the 1st of October the days start to get shorter and the weather gets colder.

Taking some simple preventative steps to protect your Holiday Home from the winter elements can:

• Help reduce the risk of damage to your holiday home

• Avoid having your holiday home out of use whilst repairs are undertaken

• Help reduce the stress and anxiety that any damage might subsequently cause

In many cases, the steps you would take to ensure your holiday home is ‘winterised’ are the same that you might take to protect your own home. They include some of the following:

• Switch off all water stopcocks

• Ensure that all sink plugs are left open (this ensures that no sink can overflow)

• Try to insulate your water pipes with insulating foam/lagging to protect from frost

• Ensure that all your drains (inside and outside the property) are clear and free of obstruction

• Ensure that any external guttering is free of obstruction (this prevents water cascade down the caravan side)

• Central heating systems should have a small amount of anti-freeze included in the water
