We are based in the North West but we see customers bring their T5's from across the UK including Wales, Scotland, and even Ireland and Jersey and there is a reason for this. We are local to transport links such as the Motorway, the railway station and we are always happy to pick up and drop you off from the local train station. With a huge range of solar panels in our stock, we supply and fit solar panels to Volkswagen T5 vehicles including vans, tin tops and elevation roofs. How many panels do I need?
This isn’t always an easy question to answer. We will always ask you about your onboard energy usage and review your electrical system. Typically, a T5 and the roof size will take two smaller panels or 1 larger panel. We always recommend one and going as big as you can for your budget as they add value to your T5, create more charging power and look much neater on your roof than 2 units. Solar panels for battery maintenance or trickle charging can be much smaller for occasional use.
Will I need more batteries?
Not necessarily hence if you get a decent size solar panel it will power a lot without the need of a huge amount of batteries. In some cases, a well designed electrical system in your T5 with a good solar charging system can require less batteries than a T5 that relies purely on engine charging via a split charge system. Again, we can assess your needs and advise. We also supply batteries and a wide range of other electrical items and 12 Volt items.
MPPT or PWM charge controllers?
We often get asked what's the difference is between PWM and MPPT solar charge controllers? In short, MPPT is the better option when you are trying to optimise the output from your solar panels. MPPT controllers allow your solar panels to produce more power in low light or shaded conditions. The only advantage to PWM controllers is their lower cost, so they do have a place in small trickle charge systems when budget is tight. We can advise on this to your budget and give you the best options for your needs.
